I will gladly admit. I am a dog person. I particularly love the larger breeds. Since I was about 5 years old I have spent no more than a couple of months combined without a dog in my life. Before I had children, my dog(s) were my babies. I took them everywhere. They had doggie friends and doggie playdates and we took vacations with other doggie families.
I honestly feel bad for the dog we have now because it is the first one to enter my life post babies. It’s the first dog that has never been welcomed onto the couch or bed. It rarely leaves the house except to go to the vet. After 10 years he finally took his first trip to our cottage this summer…only because we didn’t have a dog sitter available. It’s (not so) funny how my attention to the family dog has changed now that there are children in the house and in my heart. But that’s not to say that this dog doesn’t still get attention, the poor dog get LOTS of attention. Too much at times. But what a good sport he is, taking to all the tugging and hugging and loving poured upon him, sometimes quite aggressively from those children. But regardless of how the dog’s role in my life has been modified over time, I still do love the heck out of him.
I’m often sweetly reminded of those old dog days as I see the predominant role dogs lead in the lives of many of my clients. Buyers bring them along for the ride for appointments. They talk about their pooch when viewing homes and admiring the yards. They start envisioning a dog bed near fireplaces and fences around yards. I do appreciate the love these dog parents have for their pups, because I was that proud dog mom too.
One of the things that I loved to do as a dog mom (but have not done since kids) is take the pooch to see Santa Clause. Why? Because it’s just fun and cute. So I decided to compile a quick list of places in and around Belleville to take your furry loved ones to see the big man this season.

Belleville Area Museum, 405 Main Street, Belleville, MI
Rumor has it that pets are always welcome at the museum, though you may wish to call to provide pet details and verify 😉
But take the kids regardless, they put on a fun workshop.
